Hostage

Random thought. If all the icebergs in the world melt, wouldn't the sea level remain unchanged? Then whats all this fuss about global warming =P

Right. I am allowed to rant rite? No names will be mentioned. You people know who you are and I will not apologise for anything I say. So suck it up and close this window if you don't want to read on.

I was kidnapped on Sunday. Yes I was. And held hostage for half a day. All over one damn messy breakup which happened a few months ago. (And no, I'm still with Ayumi thanks.)

The night before I was out till 2. Friend's birthday dinner which was destined to lead to late night DotA (hehe dun deny it birthday boy, ur addicted). Then I watched an interesting low-budget movie called "Thumbsucker" until 4 plus. Had a few notable extras too: Keanu Reeves, Vince Vaughn and that guy from Law and Order- Criminal Intent. Anyways back to the point, it was the wee hours of the morning before I got to bed. 5? Can't remember.

9am. Ring ring. WTF. Silence. ?. Snore...

10am. Ring ring. WTF. Ring ring. WTFWTFWTF. Hello? Shit she's crying. What did that biatch do this time? Coming to pick me up? Huh? Talk? Huh??? ON THE WAY? HUH?!?!

To say that the half hour drive to the beach (her idea) was uncomfortable would be an understatement. To destabilise her any further emotionally was going to be suicidal. Oh yeah I was freakin awake during that trip, my right hand was poised to grab the hand brake at any second.

Background info: everyone knew from the start they were never going to end happily ever after. But when they were going out, he was impossible to seperate from her. When he was overseas, he even indulged in the super annoying "long missed call" technique which he so vocally renounced a year earlier when someone else did it. But there was one thing that bothered us: he never allowed her to spend time with us. Possesive? Up for interpretation. I barely knew her at all.

So I'm her best friend now? -_-"

The breakup was a messy one to say the least. I think she still harbours feelings for him. He though is together with another girl now. And hides the fact that he is. You see where this is going? He tells me he has "hinted" to her. What does that even mean? I had to break the news to her at the beach. Watch her cry her eyes out. Sigh. Why me.

Have you ever heard an angry, broken-hearted girl ramble? If yes, I feel your pain. Hell really hath no fury like a woman scorned.

gee I dunno wat to say... =/

btw, sea levels DO change (its already changing)! if lots ice cubes were in a tub of water and the temperature in the room was risen... wouldn't it melt? and in the end wouldnt the volume of water in the tub increase? Isnt it the same with global warming?
am I wrong? coz I dont think its rocket science...

(if i am wrong someone pls correct me before i make an ass outta myself!)

if the icebergs were already floating around from the beginning, the amount of water they displace (thus causing buoyancy) is equal to their mass. that means when it melts, the mass of the ice decreases and less water is displaced whilst the volume of water increases. these balance out so the sea level remains unchanged.

try a simple experiment: put an ice cube into a glass and fill it with water. the level will not get any higher as it melts. instead it may get lower coz of evaporation!

ok fine... turns out I didnt really know about global warming and physics. but may I say that it wouldnt be such an issue if sea levels werent actually rising!
as a result of googling (shut up, its good to know about the world out there... =/) its probably because alot of the water in the world is trapped as ice on top of mountains or as glaciers/ice sheets and THAT is what's melting which ADDS water to the sea. Hence the rise in sea level. If ice bergs already floating on the sea melted, then sea levels dont change... at least in theory, I suppose...
Anyway you should probably know that this isnt a made-up story and it IS a problem coz cities sink and stuff. Blah. I'll shut up now...
